Buy: 12.5kg Potclays Flecked Stoneware

/

Potclays Flecked Stoneware - Our favourite clay to throw on the wheel. Stable and forgiving. It is coarse though, and it is recommended to test your glaze. Abbots Gloss white dipped will have a rough finish to touch, with random flecked burned through. If you are after a smooth finish, I have tested it on Amaco handpainted River Birch - 3 coats.

Potclays recommend that the kiln shelve to be well coated with refractory wash to prevent sticking during firing

Firing range Cone 3 to 11. We fire it at cone 6

Indicative texture 4 (Smooth 1-coarse10)

Shrinkage 1100C = 9% and 1200C = 12%

Microwave Use: Basalt is an iron-bearing compound which is not metallic, therefore fired ware can be used in a microwave.

Always refer to the manufacturer’s guidelines for optimal firing conditions for your specific kiln setup.
