Rent for an Event: Pottery at your Place

At potter&dabble, we're passionate about bringing the joy of pottery right to your doorstep. Our mobile setup includes everything you need to host a memorable and creative workshop with friends in your home.

We have a range if packages and pricing to suit - whether you want to host your own session on the wheel, have a tutor guide your group and make a functional piece, or you and your group just want to play with clay on the wheel.

OPTION ONE:

DIY Wheel & Clay

For those who want to share their pottery skills with friends or family! Rent a wheel, set up your space, and host your own pottery session at your home.

This is the cheapest option as all you need is a pottery wheel. You organise the rest and manage the workshop (only available if the host has done a pottery course before and knows how to operate and look after a pottery wheel)

Price: $60 for 1 x wheel & stool. Max 3-day rental. Keep it only for a few hours or the entire 72 hours, upto you. Whatever suits your home environment.

What’s Included:

  • 1 x Nidec Shimpo Whisper-T Pottery Wheel & Potter’s stool perfect to share with 2 to 3 friends.
  • Essential Gear: Cleaning buckets, floor-protecting lino & extension cables (each wheel is 5 amps)

Pickup or Delivery: Collect for free from our lil studio in Dairy Flat or request a quote and we will deliver and pickup from your Auckland home. At this stage we don’t do classes outside of Auckland. Note: if you need more than 2 wheels, transport can get a little tricky depending on vehicle size, so drop us a msg at [email protected] and we can come up with a plan

Optional Add-ons: Clay and pottery tools available on request. Need extra wheels, no worries we have up to 5 wheels available. Need to extend your rental, pay an additional $20 per wheel and keep it for a week. Need as tutor as well, view our other packages below

Clay firing & glazing: You will need to organise your own firing and glazing of each piece. There are some great places around Auckland that can fire for you including Owera Estuary Art, Clay Studio and Kilnit Firing to name a few. You will need to contact them directly and work through their process and terms to be able to fire.  To buy brush on underglaze or glaze your pieces visit ccg or botpots

OPTION TWO:

  • Pottery tools to use on the wheel
  • A Tutor to guide you and your group through the basics. The tutor will even centre the clay on the wheel for you if would like. For this session we only need one tutor
  • Delivery to and from your Auckland Location
  • Essential Gear: Cleaning buckets, floor-protecting lino & extension cables (each wheel is 5 amps)
  • We will arrive onsite 30min before the session starts and will need approx. 30min per wheel at the end of the session for cleaning and packdown. So total time onsite approx 3hours.

Lifting of the pottery wheel & setup

  • We need someone at your end to help us carry the wheel (they weigh 45kg and need to be carried by 2 people). If this isn’t possible, let us know—we can bring an extra person. Just let us know at time of booking so we can include this in our quote
  • Easy site access is required—no stairs or tight corners

Playing on the wheel vs making a piece to keep:

This session is all about having fun and experiencing what it is like to throw on the wheel. If you do make something AMAZING that you would like to keep, we can organise for it to be trimming, bisque fired, glazed, glaze fire and have it ready to be picked up from our studio in Dairy Flat. This process does take a few weeks to complete. $25 for one 500g piece. We take no responsibilities for breakages or damage done in the kiln

Perfect for a relaxed, creative get-together!

OPTION THREE:

Wheel to Table Workshop

Our Wheel to Table workshop offers a fully immersive 3 hour pottery experience in your home. You host the event, organise your guests, nibbles and drinks, and we will take care of all things pottery. We will bring the pottery wheel/s, clay, cleaning essentials, even aprons, and will spend time with each member of your group, helping them make a functional piece on the wheel. After the workshop, we will trim each piece by hand, bisque fire it, glaze each piece by hand, and complete a final fire. All finished pieces will be ready for collection from our studio in Dairy Flat.

For upto 4 people only. Contact us for a Quote

What’s Included:

  • 1 x Nidec Shimpo Whisper-T Pottery Wheel & potter’s stool.
  • Smooth, beginner-friendly clay – pre-weighed and wedged for easy throwing.
  • Pottery tools to use on the wheel.
  • Tutor-led session with step-by-step guidance. We spend on average 30min on the wheel with each participant helping them make their own functional piece - whether it is a Cocktail rim dish, Spoon rest or a handle free mug / pen holder, plant pot etc
  • Firing & glazing included – we take care of the full process! This takes place after the workshop, and is quiet time consuming as involved trimming each piece by hand, taking it to be bisque fired, hand glazing each piece, then being glaze fired
  • Essential Gear: Cleaning buckets, floor-protecting lino & extension cables (each wheel runs at 5 amps).
  • Setup & Cleanup: We arrive 30 minutes before the session and need 30 minutes per wheel at the end for cleaning and pack-down. So we will be onsite for approx 3 hours.

Lifting of the pottery wheel & setup

  • We need someone at your end to help us carry the wheel/s (they weigh 45kg and need to be carried by 2 people). If this isn’t possible, let us know an additional resource in our quote
  • Easy site access is required—no stairs or tight corners.

💛 A great option for: Birthdays, celebrations, bookclubs or a creative catch-up with friends!
